Surrogate Infection Model Predicts Optimal Alveolar Macrophage Number for Clearance of Aspergillus fumigatus Infections

Saffer B C, Timme S, Rudolph P, Figge MT# (2023). Surrogate Infection Model Predicts Optimal Alveolar Macrophage Number for Clearance of Aspergillus fumigatus Infections. npj Systems Biology and Applications.

Full agent-based infection models are computationally expensive to explore broadly. This paper fits a surrogate model — a faster, reduced-order stand-in that reproduces the macrophage-population dynamics of the full simulation — to efficiently sweep the parameter space of alveolar macrophage numbers and identify the range that best clears Aspergillus fumigatus infection.
